My gut reaction was that ectos were going to skyrocket in price because they couldn't be readily solo-farmed, but the gold that was being used to pay for them can't be readily solo-farmed anymore either. All aspects of the economy just got hit, and I can't guess how it will land.

Keyless chests would have been even more important post update, if those actually still worked. I haven't been able to open them in over two months now.

Peace,
-CxE

Yeah, there are a lot of aspects to the economy now making it difficult to predict what will happen. Money is harder to come by from farming, but people can get money faster now by playing in hard mode. Ecto prices will rise because people can't solo farm, but if UW passage scrolls become more and more common, prices might drop down a bit as more people are able to enter UW/FoW whenever they want.

Frankly, the rich should be able to get VERY rich from this if they play their cards right. Also, sell those elite tomes and stuff at a markup while you can.

Yep isn't it great? These places will finally serve their purpose as a high-end adventure zone more often than overused farm fields now! free access if you find a scroll, increased base drop levels, lockpicks for chests, lower solo farm levels.... ah yes, guildwars is going good. if they can fix some of the problems this last update caused (namely the AFK heroes) I can once again be proud of anet, after some recent disappointments. they're finally going back to making pve fun instead of putting all their effort into pvp...

If drop rates increase with party size, larger parties will result in more drops (at least in total party wide) and in less time. More ectos would come into the market. But also more gold ...

This would be true if you didn't split gold with heroes and henchies. Yes, they still take their cut, so in the end, you still earn far less than before.

Not at all.

It's just saving 1k and bing able to enter even if the current region has no favor.
They should let people sell the scrolls in scroll traders, too.

So people who live in areas that usualy have favor could get some cash by 'selling' the entrance to those who get less time.

I've actually noticed a huge increase in the quality of my drops, I'm curious if that was compensation for the farming nerf.

I don't think anyone can honestly say where ectos will go. The demand for them was never staggeringly high, their true value was as an alternative to money. That being said, unless their drop rate increases tenfold, there's going to be a lot fewer of them around, scrolls or no scrolls.

Thursdays update introduced loot scaling with party size, in Friday's update some items are excluded from the scaling. There will be more gold overall.

Yes, but which is faster, arranging a large party, checking skills, and preparation compared to a solo run? I bet large parties won't be as fast as solo farming. Not only the preparation, but the smites themselves.

Update - Friday April 20
Loot Changes

* Adjusted the following items so that they are now exempt from loot scaling:
o Skill Tomes
o Scrolls
o Dye
o Rare materials, such as Ectoplasm
o Gemstones from the Domain of Anguish
o All other rare (gold) items
o All unique (green) items
o Special event items

Miscellaneous

* Henchmen that were previously sub-level 20 before entering Hard Mode now have appropriate armor and weapon damage for their level.
* Added the Warrior's 15k Knight's Armor set to the crafter in Marhan's Grotto.

Now i really wonder what will happen to the ecto market. Some of you guys still think that the ecto market is going to boom. I bought almost 100 ectos yesterday at 8.5k each.

With the Friday update, ectos will continue to drop at the same rate for solo farmers as they did before. So the supply will not drop.

With the scrolls allowing more people into the UW, the supply of ectos should instead go up.

But the scrolls also allow more people to get to the Forge, which means more demand for ectos for Fissure armor.

Remember during the free access weekend the price of ectos and shards soared on Saturday as people who normally didn't have Forge access bought them up. The extra supply finally dropped the prices to almost exactly where they were on Thursday by Monday.

Which is all to say: nobody knows how the scrolls will affect ecto prices.
